Minimum standards check

Is my rented home up to standard, and who do I tell?

The 2019 Regulations set the minimum a rented home must have: sound structure, heating, hot and cold water, ventilation, fire safety, cooking and laundry equipment, no pests, safe electrics and gas. Tick what is wrong and the tool names the heading each failure falls under, writes the repair request with a date, and the inspection request to your council.

What is wrong

Tick every heading the home fails

A checklist, not an upload: nothing is pasted or sent anywhere. Whether a home meets the standards is the inspector's finding. The reasonable-time days are a planning figure; the Regulations give none.

Information, not advice. This tool applies the published rules to the dates and figures you enter. It does not say whether a notice is valid, whether a deduction is lawful or what the RTB will decide: those turn on facts and evidence the RTB weighs. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to this site. Last checked 2026-10-27.
