Moving in and moving out checklist

What do I check before I pay, and before I hand back the keys?

Two halves. Moving in: the one-month caps, the written agreement, the landlord's details, the RTB number, the rent-setting statement, the inventory and the photographs, the meters, the alarms, the keys. Moving out: the notice served and proved, the final readings, the photographs, the keys returned with a note, the forwarding address, the deposit request.

Information, not advice. This tool applies the published rules to the dates and figures you enter. It does not say whether a notice is valid, whether a deduction is lawful or what the RTB will decide: those turn on facts and evidence the RTB weighs. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to this site. Last checked 2026-10-27. TenantWise is an independent site, not connected with the Residential Tenancies Board, Revenue, the Department of Housing, any local authority, Threshold or any landlord body. It is not a solicitor, a letting agent, a landlord, a deposit scheme or an advice service. It covers the Republic of Ireland only. Before you act, ring Threshold, which is free, or talk to a solicitor.
